Remove top picks / promotions in Gmail

Gmail has introduced different tabs for its inbox, which includes the Promotions tab. This has helped Gmail improve deliverability and reduce spam requests from users. You can, however, disable these tabs on the Gmail app as well as on PC.

Steps to remove top picks in Gmail app

Gmail typically displays marketing emails, bulk emails such as deals, offers, and other promotional messages as “best choices”. Google automatically categorizes these emails based on their content and sends them to the respective inbox category.

However, you can turn off those best emails from your Gmail inbox on its app. Follow the steps mentioned below.

1. Open the Gmail app on your phone.

2. Tap the hamburger icon and select Settings from the list.

3. Now tap on your email id to enter your account settings.

4. Here, in the Inbox section, tap "Inbox categories".

5. Now scroll to the end of the page and under the Promotions tab find "Activate the grouping of the main e-mails". Tap it to uncheck the box.

That's it. Now, premium emails won't show up in your Gmail inbox first.

Bonus tip: remove the Promotions tab in Gmail

Just like the Gmail app, on PC it also sends emails to all of its tabs based on some factors like sender information, email content, and user engagement. This is why some emails go directly to the Promotions tab. Here's how to turn off this tab in your Gmail inbox on PC:

1. Click on the Settings (gear icon) in the upper right corner, and then select See all settings in the drop-down menu.

2. There, select the " Mailbox " and under "Categories", uncheck the box next to Promotions. You can also uncheck all other unwanted tabs to remove them from Inbox as well.

3. Finally, click on Save changes at the bottom of the screen.

That's it. This will allow all promotional emails to go straight to your primary inbox. You can choose to remove all tabs from here and your one inbox will contain all the emails that might not look so clean.
