AirDrop uses WiFi and Bluetooth networks to establish a connection between your iPhone and Mac or any other Apple device. While sending large files, your iPhone may go to sleep causing the transfer to fail or stop midway. Therefore, to avoid this problem, you need to make sure that your phone does not turn off during the transfer as follows.

  1. On your iPhone, open Settings.
  2. Press Display and brightness.
  3. Select Automatic locking and set the timing to Never.

This will prevent your iPhone from going to sleep during an AirDrop transfer. However, if AirDrop still doesn't work for you, you can follow the additional tips below.

AirDrop still not working? Follow these tips:

  • Restart your devices. Restarting your iPhone, iPad, or Mac usually fixes any temporary issues. Just do a quick restart, and AirDrop should start working normally again.
  • Modify AirDrop visibility settings. Head toward Settings> General> AirDrop and check if it is set to "Receive Off". Select the correct option.
  • Disable and re-enable Bluetooth and WiFi. Turn off and on WiFi and Bluetooth from Control Center to see if that fixes AirDrop issues on your iPhone.
  • Check your Mac's firewall settings. On your Mac, go to System Preferences> Security & Privacy> Firewall and check if you have blocked incoming connections in firewall options. If so, change it to allow inbound connections.
  • Reset network settings on your iPhone. Resetting the network settings will resolve most issues associated with Bluetooth and WiFi. Move towards Settings> General> Reset and tap “Reset network settings”. Note that this will remove all saved Wi-Fi passwords and you will need to reconnect to your networks.
  • Update your software. Apple regularly fixes bugs and software problems via OTA. Make sure you have the latest software version in Settings> General> Software update.
