Some AirPods Max units have a major bug that makes them very difficult to use

According to complaints posted on the Apple support forums (via 9to5Mac), the over-ear AirPods Max has a nasty bug that drains the battery quickly. For example, check out this article written by an AirPods Max user with the grip of MrFling. He wrote: “Can anyone explain why when I put my AirPods Max back in their case at 60% battery life and the next morning they are at 1% battery? This happened to me several times with the magnetic shutter closed. So I know I'm placing them correctly in the case. Looks like it must be a hotfix. Apple, please give us the option to turn off these headphones. "

Apple AirPods Max suffers from battery drain

A community specialist replied saying how the load case should work. He said, “It seems like when you put your AirPods Max in the case at night, the battery runs out in the morning. When your AirPods Max is in the case, it should go into low power mode and not drain the battery much. . He also included two links from Apple's website; an explained the process of charging the batteries while the other explained how to get in touch with apple.

The original complaints were published in December and continue until January. One AirPods Max owner 90% put the headphones to bed every night; after a night in the charging case, they went down to 0% every morning. Many posters ask Apple to release a software update and others point out that at $ 549, such a bug should never have existed. At least one community article mentioned both in a missive: “Yeah, same problem here. I fully charge my Airpods Max, carefully place them in the Apple case (which is supposed to put them in "low power mode"), then when I go to use them a few hours later or the next day they make the "sound of death" Indicating that the battery is low and I see that the battery has dropped to 1%. Not the behavior I would expect in a pair of $ 549 headphones ... Apple, you have a serious bug here, exacerbated by the fact that you refused to include a simple physical on / off button on a pair of headphones at $ 549. I see dozens of other customers complaining about the same issue on the MacRumors forums, so this seems to be a common problem. Hope it can be resolved in a firmware update. "

The AirPods Max includes some of the features of the AirPods Pro wireless Bluetooth in-ear headphones. These features include active noise cancellation (ANC) and Transparency mode. The former prevents ambient or exterior noises from being heard by the user. However, there are times when it is important for the user to be able to hear what is going on around them. For example, a user seated at the airport waiting to hear that his flight is boarding may wish the Transparency mode to be activated; This function allows the wearer of AirPods Max to hear ambient and background noises.

Some claim that the bug is not a problem if the AirPods Max is used only with an iPhone. The battery drain issue seems to occur if the laptop is connected to an Apple TV or non-Apple device. It should be noted that the headphones do not have a power switch and users are expected to place the accessory in the carrying case to initiate low power mode.

Those experiencing the battery drain issue can try any of the following workarounds which have worked for some:

  • Force restart AirPods Max. To do this, press the digital crown with the noise control button until an orange status light appears.
  • Perform a factory reset by performing the above action until the status light turns white.
  • Using your device's Bluetooth settings, disconnect the AirPods Max connection.
  • Turn off automatic switching using your device settings.
  • Use AirPods Max with one device.

Hopefully Apple will release a software update soon to exterminate this bug.
