3 ways to view already deleted WhatsApp messages, photos and videos

WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging apps in the world. In 2017, the Facebook-owned giant released the “Delete for Everyone” feature that allowed users to delete their messages even after they were sent. You can delete everything, including texts, images, videos, voice notes and documents, within an hour of sending the message if they change their mind. However, it also means that once someone deletes the messages, you cannot see or read them.

Fortunately, we have workarounds to read WhatsApp messages that someone has already deleted. Today we offer you three quick ways to view or read already deleted WhatsApp messages, photos, videos and other files.

View messages, photos, videos and other WhatsApp files deleted by the sender

Read or view already deleted WhatsApp messages, photos and videos

Others may delete the WhatsApp messages they sent you for various reasons - maybe they were sent accidentally, or maybe they've changed their mind now. This is where curiosity takes over. But since the message has been deleted, you can no longer see or read it.

Fortunately, there are several third-party apps that let you read WhatsApp messages that the other person has already deleted. These apps read the messages from the notification and protect them even if they are deleted for everyone. Below we have mentioned three such apps which can help you view deleted content on WhatsApp.

Things to note

  • Make sure to enable automatic media download in WhatsApp for these apps to work properly. To do this, open WhatsApp, go to Settings > Storage and data. Here, allow automatic download for Photos, the audio, Videos, and Documents under Mobile data et Wi-Fi.
  • You will need to grant notifications access to these apps, which means they can see any notifications you receive, including messages. This may pose a threat to your privacy, and therefore you will do so at your own risk.
  • What can I do to avoid any privacy concerns? If your phone supports it, turn off data and WiFi access for these apps. This way, you won't see any ads and you don't have to worry about the data collected from your device.
  • Messages for muted chats may not be retrieved using these apps.
  • These methods will only work on Android. IPhone users don't have an option yet.

1.WhatsDelete

WhatsDelete works as an anti-deletion service that allows you to save deleted WhatsApp messages from sender's side. Besides, it also allows you to read them without blue ticks or any last seen activity. Below is how you can use it on your phone.

Recover Deleted WhatsApp Messages, Pictures Using WhatsDelete:

  1. Download and install the WhatsDelete app on your phone.
  2. Open it and grant the required permissions.
  3. Then select WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business from the list of apps when prompted.
  4. You will now see different tabs including Discuss, Status, Pictures, Video, Voix, the audio, and Documents.
  5. If someone sends you a message or file on WhatsApp and deletes it later, you can still access those chats or media files in their respective sections in the app.

WhatsDelete will automatically notify you when a sender deletes their WhatsApp message. You can then tap the notification to view the contents of the deleted message. You can also send a reply from the app without opening WhatsApp.

2.WhatsRemoved+

WhatsRemoved + works the same as it automatically saves all incoming WhatsApp texts and media files. When someone deletes the message, they can access it from the app.

It has a slightly better user interface than WhatsDelete. It also offers more settings to customize. However, there is no option to save WhatsApp status photos and videos which could be a deciding factor.

  3. Tap Yes, save files when asked if you want to save deleted files.
  4. On the next screen, select WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business (if you are using both).
  5. From now on, you will get a notification whenever someone deletes a message they sent you on WhatsApp.
  6. You can then tap the notification to see the text, image, photo or audio of the already deleted WhatsApp message.

Can't see deleted files from WhatsApp Business? Go to app settings. Then click on "Configure file selection" and select the WhatsApp Business folder on your phone storage.

3.WAMR

Just like other apps, WAMR allows you to recover deleted messages by reading your notifications. It has a simple user interface, similar to WhatsApp, which a lot of people can feel comfortable with. Apart from recovering deleted messages and media including photos and videos, it also offers the option to download statuses.

  1. Download and install WAMR on Google Play Store.
  2. Open the app and grant permissions, including access to files and notifications.
  3. Then select WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business (if installed) when prompted to select which apps to monitor. You can also select other applications.
  4. Once the app is set up, sit back and let it run in the background.
  5. Once someone sends you a message and later deletes it, you will receive an instant notification.
  6. You can then tap the notification or open the app to view the deleted WhatsApp message, photo or video.

As mentioned, you will need to enable automatic media download in WhatsApp settings. Otherwise, apps will only recover deleted text messages and not media or document files. Additionally, it won't work properly with chats you've turned off notifications for - keep a note of that.
